Basil Lettuce Leaf Ocimum Basilicum is one of the most popular culinary herbs, and it produces the most foliage of any basil. Fresh leaves are excellent in salads and not overpowering as some other varieties can be.It is a sun-loving annual with highly aromatic leaves that has a pleasant spicy odor and taste somewhat like anise or cloves. Both the leaves and their essential oils are used as flavoring agents. Many of these widely grown plants are ornamental, as well as edible.

Basil Lettuce Leaf Ocimum Basilicum is used as a fresh or dried whole herb and may be steam-distilled to produce an essential oil. Basil oil has perfume and pharmaceutical use as well as use as a flavoring ingredient. Harvest for fresh or dried leaves is done before bloom, while harvest for oil is done at full bloom. The plant grows rapidly, and several cuttings may be obtained. Plants should be cut 4-6 inches from the ground to permit re-growth.

There is nothing like the smell of basil - one of the most recognized fragrances of summer. Basil has become one of the most popular herbs in the garden today.
