Latin name:Viola tricolor
Family: Violaceae
Common name: Viola Aetolica
Plant Classification: Hardy perennial
Height(approx.): 4-6in
A spectacular alpine viola which makes a low dome of branching stems and leaves densely studded with small bright yellow flowers all summer long. It will, if you are lucky, self-seed into cracks and unexpected corners. This is the plant that has occasionally found fame as a patio or basket plant. What a waste!
SOWING ADVICE: FOR BEST RESULTS, SOW SEEDS ONTO A GOOD SOIL-BASED COMPOST. COVER THE SEEDS WITH FINE GRIT OR COMPOST TO APPROXIMATELY THEIR OWN DEPTH. WE RECOMMEND GERMINATING AT 15 TO 20 DEGREES C. ALTHOUGH THEY CAN BE SOWN AT ANY TIME, THESE SEEDS MAY SOMETIMES WAIT FOR SPRING BEFORE EMERGING, BUT SPRING SOWING WILL OBVIOUSLY GIVE THEM A FULL SEASON OF GROWTH.
